Shaw takes double win at Brands Hatch
Simon Shaw became the fourth different winner in as many races in this season’s Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup, when the Dunlop Great & British package entertained at Brands Hatch last weekend.
Shaw went on to become the first double race winner in his SEAT Leon Cupra, before championship rival Leyton Clarke joined the select club in his Triple 8 Astra VXR in race three.
Simon’s SEAT bucked the trend of the dominant force of the Astra VXR in race one, after passing current Class A champion Martin Wallbank for the lead on lap 6.
Winning race one put Simon’s Dunlop backed SEAT one pole position for the 2nd race, and was never headed despite 45kg success ballast from the 1st race.
A reverse starting order, success ballast and a misfire prevented a hat trick in race three. Simon battled his way upto 4th before the engine misfire forced him back down to 6th.
“The Astras have been amazingly fast so far this season,” said Simon “but winning races 1 and 2 this weekend has just underlined the SEAT’s potential. Winning the third race would’ve fantastic, but there’s no reason we cant aim for a hat trick again throughout the season!”
Simon briefly lead the overall championship standings midday Sunday by winning races 1 and 2, but the set back in race 3 now leaves Simon trailing championship leader Leyton Clarke by 6 points.
The next three rounds of the championship take place at Donington Park on the 4th and 5th of July.
